McCabe Mandates Portable Speakers on Course, Citing What Officials Call a 'Silence Problem'
The new policy takes effect immediately. Complaints may be directed to the parking lot.
The directive, issued Tuesday by the club’s Atmosphere and Ambiance Subcommittee, requires all foursomes to carry at least one Bluetooth-capable audio device capable of reaching 70 decibels at 10 feet.
Officials cited an internal survey in which 34 percent of members reported experiencing “prolonged quiet” during rounds on the Middle nine. A follow-up study confirmed the phenomenon was real.
“The birds are not doing enough,” said the committee chair, who asked not to be quoted directly.
Approved genres include classic rock, contemporary country, and anything described on the packaging as “beach vibes.” Jazz remains under review.
